Following up after the Housing-Climate Policy panel

10/27/2019

We had an incredible turnout and audience engagement at our panel last Thursday! Our panel received over 100 in-person attendees and 160 online registrants, and our livestream got interest from as far away as Australia! If you want to check out the event, you can watch the livestream, see slides to be posted on the Connecting Communities webpage, and review the livetweet thread. Check out the info below about ways to get more involved with our panel hosts and participants.
We will have an organizational meeting next Tuesday in SF to discuss our draft platform and group structure, and we will have additional events next month that will be relaxed and fun for newbies as well.
  1. Learn more about the work of each of our panelists.
    1. Chris Jones led the development of the CA Local Government Policy Tool and the CoolClimate Calculator so you can identify the most effective measures for your city and your family to reduce climate pollution.
    2. Bruce Nilles wrote this op-ed in the New York Times earlier this year outlining the case for eliminating fossil gas from our homes with heat pumps and induction stoves.
    3. Nina Rizzo showed a demonstration of the GreenTRIP Connect tool to help build affordable homes while reducing traffic.
    4. Last but not least, follow our moderator David Garcia on Twitter and check out the Terner Center blog. I especially like this recent working paper showing new evidence that single family zoning leads to reduced housing affordability and less integrated communities in California.
  2. Check out the other events in the Connecting Communities 2019 series by TransForm. The next one will be a webinar this upcoming Wednesday by the author Christof Spieler on how to save local transit.
  3. Learn more about our co-hosts BayHAC and SPUR. We'd also like to thank our affiliate groups California YIMBY and Seamless Bay Area for advertising the event and hope you check out their work addressing our housing and transportation challenges-- on Nov 21, Seamless will be at SPUR to talk about Assessing Big Transportation Ideas for the Bay Area.
Finally, thanks to our sponsors of the Connecting Communities Event Series:
American Planning Association Northern California Chapter
Commute with Enterprise
EAH Housing
San Mateo Office of Sustainability
Silicon Valley Community Foundation
Spare the Air Resource Teams
