Urban Environmentalists Platform; Jan Meeting

Our January meeting is Mon, Jan 6 at the YIMBY Action Clubhouse in SF, at 6pm. We will discuss heat pumps, solar panels, and building codes! RSVP if you want to participate remotely as well and we'll send a Zoom link. For the new year, we hope to make the first Mon of the month a regular meeting time and include many substantive discussion topics for meetings, while continuing to do organizational work largely online.

1. Michael Andersen at Sightline paraphrased the annual UN Climate report: End Apartment Bans to Save the Planet.
2. Two different opinion articles were published in the Journal of the American Planning Association this month calling for the end of single-family zoning.
   (Reminder: what this refers to is single-family only zoning that requires all homes in an area be detached single family on large lots, banning more efficient and multifamily housing ranging from "missing middle housing"-- bungalow courts, townhouses, duplexes, fourplexes, etc. -- to high-rise apartments. According to the Terner Center, more than 70% of residential land in California falls into this category, and that proportion is not necessarily smaller in central cities!)
